That 75 mm cannon in that side sponson position was its one drawback. When they first herald it onto the battlefield against a German position, the French has strapped gas cans onto the back of each tank.

The German machine guns opened fired on those cans and sent gasoline splashing into the engine compartments. The hot engines set the gas on fire, burning up the crews. The Germans wept as they listened to the screams from the crews.

Those rolling death traps continued towards their lines before being taken out by artillery fire or coming to a complete halt when the equipment was welded up from the heat.
